Lloyd "Tony" Burgdorf

Eyota, Lloyd "Tony" Burgdorf, 83 of Eyota and formerly of Dover died Sunday evening November 2, 2008 at his home. Tony was born March 8, 1925 in St. Charles to Harry and Andrena (Stone) Burgdorf. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1943. Following High School Tony entered the US Army and fought at Luzon in the South Pacific for 2½ years, receiving two Purple Hearts. He and Shirley Nelson were married October 11, 1946 in Dover, where they made their home, moving to Eyota in January of this year. Tony drove bulk oil truck for Greenway Co-op and school bus for Dover-Eyota Schools until retiring. He was a 60 year member of the American Legion Post #190 and Veterans of Foreign War Post, of St. Charles, a 49 year member of Dover Volunteer Fire Department. He also belonged to St. Charles Moose Lodge, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge of St. Charles and Dover United Methodist Church. Everything Tony did he gave it his best. He was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed coaching youth basketball, spending time with family and friends and going to "The River". Survivors include his wife Shirley, two children, Curt (Connie) Burgdorf of Alvord, TX and Cindy (Larry) Whitcomb of Eyota, four grandchildren; Jill Wilson, Corey Burgdorf, Kyle and Scott Whitcomb and four great-grandchildren, Mason Burgdorf, Carson Wilson, Tessa and Lucy Whitcomb, two sisters; Gladys Hammann of St. Charles, Lois (Logan) Behrens of Eyota and a brother Les (Marion) Burgdorf of Plainview. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters. Funeral Services will be 11AM Thursday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles with the Reverend David Laechel of Dover United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Dover. A reception for family and friends will follow at Dover Fire Hall. Friends may call from 5 - 7 PM Wednesday and 10 - 11AM Thursday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles. St. Charles American Legion and VFW Posts will conduct military graveside honors at the cemetery.
