Lizzie D. Britson, 96, of Houston died on Tuesday, September 05, 2006, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston, Minn. Lizzie was born on October 7, 1909, in Houston County, Minn. to John and Karina (Dahle) Strand. She was raised in rural Caledonia, Minn. and attended Fort Ridgely School. On August 4, 1930, she married Melvin Britson, in Spring Grove, Minn. Lizzie and Melvin farmed together for over 50 years in Houston County. She was a member of Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston where she was active in ladies aide, quilting, and teaching Sunday School. Her other interests included gardening, canning, cooking, and spending time with her family. Lizzie is survived by two sons: Virgil (Lydia) Britson of Houston, Minn., and Arnold (Edith) Britson of Waterloo. Iowa; one daughter: Joan (Leighton) Kragness of Rushford, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Randy, Ronda, Janine, Laurie, Lynette, Russell, and Rachel; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister: Clara Stevens of California. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Emma Schroeder and Henora Strand; three brothers: Henry, Orvin, and Clarence Strand; and one grandson: Steven Kragness. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, at Looney Valley Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. Burial will be at the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
