Linda Berg

Linda Marie (Olstad) Berg, age 90, of Rushford, MN died peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, at her home surrounded by her family.

Linda was born on September 1, 1934 in Bratsberg, MN, the daughter of Gynther and Inez (Glenna) Olstad. She grew up in the rural Rushford area, attending Grindland Country School, Peterson School and graduated from Rushford High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) A. Berg on September 24, 1955 at First Lutheran Church of Highland and they were married for 64 years. 

Linda worked at Tri-County Electric until having children led her to be a stay-at-home mom, until her love of children led her to work at Wee World Nursery. She then worked at First National Bank of Rushford until her retirement, and then went on to work for 14 years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Services in the daycare.

She was a very involved member of the First Lutheran Church of Highland where she was active in WELCA, church council, she was a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Cherub choir director, choir member and served as a deaconess.

She was an involved member in the Rushford community through the Good Shepherd Foundation, Rushford Community Chest, and was on the Rushford Sesquicentennial Committee. In her free time over the years, she enjoyed her vegetable garden but even more-so enjoyed her flower gardens, also quilting, embroidery, cake decorating, cooking, baking, and she also acquired a collection of over 200 bells. In June 1999, Dick and Linda embarked on the trip of a lifetime, fulfilling their life-long dream of visiting the breathtaking landscapes of Norway. Her biggest enjoyment, however, was spending every possible moment with her family. 

She is survived by her children; Derek (Merry) Berg, Shelley (Tim Kunda) Berg; Grandchildren; Missy (Jeremiah) Edwards, Ashley (Erick) Schulte, Tyler (Bree) Berg, and Alyssa Berg; as well as great grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and great nieces. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ronald (Margaret) Berg and sister-in-law Julie Olstad.

Linda is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Gene Olstad.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford, MN from 4pm - 7pm. Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 20, 2024 at First Lutheran Church of Highland in Lanesboro, MN at 11am. Additional visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
