Lester Irwin Denzer, 90 of Minnesota City, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Lake Winona Manor.He was born December 29, 1921 to Fred and Millie (Turner) Denzer in Winona County. On September 30, 1949 he married Joan Stewart at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Winona. They had one son, Wayne. Lester worked at Peerless Chain and part-time for Dale Denzer in carpentry. In 1953, they bought a farm in Minnesota City where Lester became a full-time farmer, which proved to be his true passion. They lived on the farm until 2009 when he moved to Lake Winona Manor. Lester was a lifelong member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minnesota, and he also helped to build the church.In addition to farming, Lester enjoyed gardening, going to farm auctions, collecting John Deere tractors, projects around the house and milking cows. He always took care of his wife, by running her on a kidney machine until kidney machines became common in hospitals. Lester was a very kind hearted man and was always willing to help out.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan; the "daughter he never had," Linda (Roger) Horner of Winona; brother-in-law, David Stewart of Minnesota City; sister-in-law, Barbara Stewart of Minnesota City; two nieces, Karen Hertzberg and Kimberly Woods; and one nephew, Darwin Denzer.Lester is preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne in 2008; one sister, Betty Haedtke; three brothers, Donald, Lowell and Russell Denzer; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Stewart and James Stewart.Lester's family would like to say thank you to the wonderful staff at Lake Winona Manor for everything they did for him and his family.Memorial Service will be 12 p.m., Friday, May 18 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service - Hansen Goodview Chapel with the Reverend David Eckert officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the time of the service. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Minnesota City.
