Lester G. McElmury, 90, of Lewiston, MN died Friday, January 30, 2015 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Rushford, MN.He was born July 24, 1924 in Money Creek to Edward & Emma (Buchholz) McElmury. Lester was a World War II veteran serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Bergen. He was a past member of the VFW & American Legion. After the war, Lester married Ona (Lafky) and together they farmed in the Money Creek & Lewiston areas until moving to St. Charles where he was a painter. He later moved back to the Lewiston area & continued painting until his retirement in 1990. Lester served on the cemetery board for Frank Hill cemetery & also on the Warren township board.Lester enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He always had a story to tell and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed feeding the birds, having fish on Friday nights with friends and relatives, and will always be remembered for his hearty laugh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ona, in 1986. Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Morse) and Darrell of Rochester, Sons Terry and Jo of Lewiston, Keith and Cami of Altura; grandchildren, Chad, Angela, Amber, Tanner, Holly, Calli, Heather, Dawson & Halle; great grandchildren, Tyler, Kaitlin, Kayla, Emily, Haily & Hanna and one great great grandson, Treycen. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, March 22 at Hoff Funeral Home in Lewiston from 2-5 pm with a prayer service at 3 p.m.Burial will be at a later date at Frank Hill Cemetery, rural Lewiston.Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Rushford or St. John's Lutheran Church of Hart.Please share a memory of Lester, sign his online guestbook and view his video tribute when it becomes available at
