HOUSTON, MINN. Leonard W. Hermanson, 93 passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. He was born November 5, 1911 to Joseph and Emma (Olson) Hermanson of Spring Grove, MN; he was the tenth of twelve children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Black Hammer Lutheran Church. He studied Catechism in Norwegian and English. Leonard was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. Leonard was only eight years old when he lost his mother, two sisters and four brothers in the 1920 to the flu epidemic. He was raised by his father and older sisters. As a young man, he hired out as a farm hand and eventually came to Looney Valley where he met Lillie Olson. They were married February 22, 1935. They farmed for many years in the Houston area. Leonard was also employed by Archer Daniels in Winona and worked with building construction and custom fencing. During his lifetime, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, music, dancing, the Minnesota Twins, "anything chocolate", a piece of lefse, and spending time with friends and family. Leonard is survived by a daughter Judy Sennes, Hokah, MN. Grandchildren Shelley (Mark) Hiser, Houston, MN, Beth (Jeff) Mollet, LaCrescent, MN, Jeff (Laurie) Sennes, Hokah, MN, Jim (Theresa) Sennes, Rochester, MN, Angie (Tom) Wilson, LaCrescent, MN, Ted Sennes, Hokah, MN. He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Two sisters-in-law Ellen Olson and Helen Olson, Houston, MN, a brother-in-law Sidney Johnson Galesville, WI, son-in-law Robert McCurdy, LaCrescent, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillie (January 27, 1997), a daughter Janet McCurdy, son Joey, six sisters and five brothers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, MN with Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery.
