Leonard J. Tostenson, 81, of Houston, MN died on Monday, December 5, 2016, at his home.
Leonard was born on August 8, 1935, in Canton, MN to Clarence and Clara Eunice (Starks) Tostenson. He was raised in Canton. On September 18, 1953, he was united in marriage with Kathleen "Kittie" Ferguson in Harmony, MN. Leonard farmed in the Canton area for a few years until he purchased a farm in Fountain City, WI where he farmed for six years. In 1965, he purchased his farm north of Houston where he has lived and farmed since. Leonard was a horse pulling legend. He was a member of the Minnesota and Wisconsin Horse Pulling Associations and was the only Minnesota resident who was named to the Wisconsin Horse Pulling Association's Hall of Fame. Leonard did horse pulling competitions all over the United States. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Conference Church. He was a man of his word who was a wonderful Dad and who loved his family.
Leonard is survived by his wife Kittie; three children: Reo (Sue) Tostenson of Eitzen, MN, Glen Tostenson of Brownsville, MN, and Kitricia (Randy) Steinfeldt of Houston; a special nephew, Rand Kipp of Houston; nine grandchildren: Tim, Chad, Brad (Liz), Brian, Michael (Katie), Jolene (Brian), Scott, Adam (Connie), and Stacy; 14 great-grandchildren; and by three siblings: Elaine (Duane) Kipp of Festina, Iowa, Jean Blaney of Mississippi, and David (Kris) Tostenson of Rushford, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Raymond, John, Esther, and Mary Ann.
There will be a funeral service for Leonard at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Church. Burial will be at the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston.
