HOUSTON, MINN. - Leonard F. Johnson, 89 of Houston died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. Leonard was born on May 17, 1918, in LaPorte, Minn. to Gust and Emma (Knutson) Johnson. He moved with his family when he was a baby to Sheldon, Minn. Leonard lived and farmed all of his life in Sheldon. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Leonard was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Houston where he also taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Houston American Legion, Sheldon Township Board, and the Sons of Norway. Leonard loved baseball, reading and farming. He is survived by his daughter Melba (Mark) Staven of Caledonia, Minn.; three grandchildren: Chris (Matt) Papenfuss, Brant (Jennine) Staven, and Ben Staven; and three great-grandchildren: Ethan, Allison and Teddy. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, one brother Harold, one sister, Ruth, and three half brothers: Palmer, Clair and Paul. There will be a memorial service for Leonard at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the Bethany Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. T. Wayne Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Swede Bottom Cemetery in rural Houston with military honors by the Arnet - Sheldon American Legion Post of Houston.
