Lennie Turnmire, 89, of St. Charles died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. Lennie was born May 8, 1929 in Harmony, MN to Leonard and Mathilda Turnmire. He attended Granger Grade School and graduated from Harmony High School. Lennie honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1948 - 1952. Following his discharge from the Air Force Lennie worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Retiring following 30 years of service. He enjoyed cutting grass, plowing snow and catching some fish. He had been a member of the La Crescent American Legion. Lennie married Sarah "Sody" (Goetz) Golish August 29, 1992. They lived on a hobby farm in Pilot Mound Township, Fillmore County. They later moved to Dover, before moving to Benson, Arizona. In 2010 they moving to St. Charles Assisted Living.
Survivors include his wife Sarah "Sody" Golish Turnmire, two sons, Arlie Golish and Edward Golish both of Spring valley, a daughter Priscilla (Roger) Koenig of St. Charles, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant twin brother.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in St. Charles, with the Reverend Sarah Walker Brown of Pilot Mound Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis in the spring. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home. The St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Post will conduct military honors at the funeral home. A reception at the funeral home will follow services.
