Layton Dwayne Mundt, 72 of St. Charles died Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home.Layton was born January 19, 1942 in Winona to Clarence and Florence (Hollenbeck) Mundt. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1960. On September 15, 1962, Layton married Rose Gielow. They moved to St. Charles in 1977. Over the years, Layton worked for John Deere, Ferguson Trailer, and Milestone Materials until he retired in 2003. He also worked part-time on the construction of I-90. He was a longtime firefighter and EMT. Layton enjoying fishing and camping at Bass Camp, NASCAR, tractor pulling and stock car driving and was a former member of the St. Charles Moose Lodge.He is survived by one son, Kevin (Barbie) Mundt; four grandchildren, Malory (Nate) Kosher, Tyler Mundt, Breanna Mundt DeVetter and Tanner Mundt and his mother, Melissa Mundt; two great-grandchildren, Payton Pettey and Camille Kosher; one sister, Joann (Edward) Mueller; sister-in-law, Margaret Mundt; his longtime companion, Beba Hanson and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose in 1980; one son, Clayton Mundt; brother, Carl Mundt; infant brother, Lyman Mundt and his parents.Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service - St. Charles, led by Funeral Celebrant Ashley Hoff. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
