St. Charles, Lawrence "Larry" August Hansen, 78, of St. Charles died Wednesday December 24, 2003 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield. Larry was born September 8, 1925 in Garden City, MN to Christian and Issie Leone (Hiersche) Hansen. He served in the United States Navy from September 9, 1942 until October 27, 1946. He fought in WWII and was stationed in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. Larry and Bernice Conway were married September 14, 1947 at the Congregational Church in St. Charles. He worked at St. Charles Condensing Plant for a short time. For many years he worked as a meat cutter at; Red and White Groceries in St. Charles, Eyota Locker Plant and Jim's Red Owl which later became Mike's Food Center in St. Charles, where he retired in 1983. Larry was a member of St. Charles United Church of Christ, and served several terms on the Church Board; St. Charles American Legion Post and served on the Memorial Board; Veterans of Foreign Post; and St. Charles Moose Lodge. Larry enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, hunting, fishing and watching sports. Survivors include his wife, Bernice, three children, Stephan Guy Hansen of St. Charles, Lynette Sue (John) Spitzer of St. Charles and Julie (Tom) Herrmann of Plainview, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM Sunday, December 28th at St. Charles United Church of Christ with the Rev. Jerald Barnhart of Rochester, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles. Friends may call from 2-5 PM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Sunday.Military graveside Honors will be conducted by the St. Charles American Legion and Veteran of Foreign War Posts.
