LaVon Dorothy VanGundy

Houston, LaVon D. VanGundy, 83, of Houston died Wednesday October 19, 2011 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse. LaVon was born April 18, 1928 in LaCrosse to Melvin and Julia (Flatten) Summers. She and Don VanGundy were married March 27, 1948 at the Houston Lutheran church parsonage. They made their home in Houston where she was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. LaVon worked in the Valley View Nursing Home dietary department for 22 years. She was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and enjoyed; knitting, baking, cooking, playing cards and going for walks. Coffee parties with her girlfriends were a special time for LaVon. For many years LaVon and Don enjoyed wintering at Good Samaritan Village in Kissimmee, FL. Survivors include her husband Don, four children; Connie (Joe) Lazor of Port Charlotte, FL, Scott VanGundy of Evansdale, IA, Jan (Ken) Van Pavelka of Ocoee, FL and Lee VanGundy of Apple Valley, MN, three grandchildren; Brad, Jeff and Ryan VanGundy, a great-granddaughter Olivia VanGundy, a brother Jerry (Marilyn) Summers of Boise, Idaho, several brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. LaVon was preceded in death by her parents. Services to remember LaVon will be at 12 Noon on Monday at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Reverend Lane Zafke officiating. A reception will follow. Burial of LaVon's cremated body will be later in the day at Money Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 10AM until time of services at the church on Monday.
