LaVerne Joyce Nickelsen

LaVerne Joyce Nickelsen, 73, of Eyota died Wednesday March 9, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. LaVerne was born September 27, 1931 in Hitchcock, South Dakota to Hallie and Florence (Van Buskirk) Brobst. She later moved with her family to the Mankato area before moving to Eyota in 1941. LaVerne graduated from Eyota High School and on November 21, 1949 she and Charles Nickelsen were married in Eyota. They have made their home their since. LaVerne worked as a waitress at Murphy's Truck stop in Eyota. She also worked at St. Mary's Hospital in housekeeping and later as a surgical orderly. She belonged to Faith United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women; Rural Robins; American Legion Auxiliary and the Golden Grads, all of Eyota. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, reading, and fishing and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. Survivors include her husband Charles, six children, Roger (Janet) Nickelsen of Stewartville; Cheryl Nickelsen of Rochester; Cindy (Duane) Kahn of Minneiska; Ronald Nickelsen (friend Bonnie) of Valley City, North Dakota; Pamela Arens (Tim Gordon) of Eyota and Tamara (Paul) Ahlers of Lake City, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, three brothers, Bill (Betty) Brobst of Eyota; Robert Brobst of East Troy, Wisconsin and Delbert (Kathy) Brobst of St. Cloud, three sisters, Betty Lentz of Rochester; Phyllis Kopplan of Gresham, OR and twin sister LaVonne Benike of Chatfield. She was preceded in death by a son Robert, a sister Beverly, a brother Haldon and a great grandson Carson. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota with the Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Eyota. Friends may call from 3-7 PM Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Monday at the church.
