LaVerne Grace Smalley

No services are planned for LaVerne Grace Smalley. Burial will be in Chatfield Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Smalley, 87, of Madonna Towers in Rochester died Monday, June 12, 2006. LaVerne Runkle was born August 12, 1918 in Pleasant Valley Township. She and Robert Smalley were married on November 5, 1937 at Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed near Stewartville until retiring. For 27 years the couple spent the winter in Apache Junction, Arizona. They lived in Madonna Meadows Assisted living from July 2001 until February 2006. Mr. Smalley died January 27, 2001. Mrs. Smalley was a homemaker and enjoyed her family and reading. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy (Garrison) Tienter of Rochester and Arlene Christensen of Fountain Hills, Arizona; four grandchildren; three great-grandsons; two sisters, Iva Sattre of Stewartville and Irene (Don) Sinn of St. Charles; and two brothers, Kenneth (Maxine) Runkle of Stewartville and Gene Runkle of Grand Meadow. Four brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
