Lewiston, LaVern Oscar Ties, 79, of Lewiston died Tuesday, December 1st at Golden Living Center in St. Charles. LaVern was born February 29, 1936 in Winona County to Oscar and Adela (Prigge) Ties. LaVern met Margie Kronebusch in high school. They married on November 4, 1955, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary last month. LaVern and Margie lived in Altura for most of their lives, retiring to their home in Lewiston for the last several years. LaVern was a building contractor. He was a partner in Altura Builders with Rollie Pasche. Together they built many homes, farm and commercial properties, including the Lewiston Villa addition, and his church, Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altura. He helped start the Lutheran Pioneers group of Jehovah Lutheran Church, teaching the youth camping and life skills. He also served on the Altura Ambulance and Volunteer Fire Department; served as city constable for Altura, and was an active Altura Lions member, receiving the Lions' Melvin Jones Fellowship award. LaVern enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Survivors include: his wife, Marjorie; four sons: Kent (Sue) of Omaha, NE, Scott (Kim) of Stewartville, Mike of St. Charles and Mark (Kristi) of Eden Prairie; ten grandchildren: Janel, Travis, Rachel, Brian, Tyler, Alex, Paige, Tanner, Breanna and Bryce and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters: Garnet Olson of Minneapolis, Eileen Stever of North St. Paul, Kitty (Ray) Pong of Denver, CO and Susie Bain of Lewiston; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Ties and Donna Ties, and his brother-in-law, Rollie Pasche. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalie Ties and Charlotte Pasche; and two brothers, Eldor "Jim" and David. Funeral Services will be at 11AM Friday at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altura with the Reverends Michael A. Lindemann and Paul Kuckhahn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Jehovah Lutheran Church from 4-7PM Thursday and one hour before services on Friday.
