Lawrence "Larry" James Manahan, 81 of St. Charles, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, surrounded by family.Larry was born August 28, 1933 in Elmira Township to Matthew and Adeline (McConnell) Manahan. He graduated from Chatfield High School. Following graduation Larry served in the United States Army for two years, stationed in Germany. In 1961, Larry married Rosemary Gardner. Together they raised six children on the farm they purchased near Troy. Larry was every bit a farmer and also a machinist; managing the Pilot Mound Garage and working with his nephew Nick at the Manahan Machine Shop in Chatfield. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Following his retirement, Larry volunteered for SEMCAC, driving people to their doctor appointments.He is survived by his longtime companion, Ellen Dahl, six children; Lorraine Himrich of Custer, SD, Walter Manahan of Hulette, WY, Raymond (Kris Brutoco) Manahan of St. Francis, MN, Kathleen Manahan of St. Paul, Barb (Steve) Thompson of Ely and Scott Manahan of Newcastle, WY; four grandchildren, Aaron and Galen Himrich and Abigail and Kelly Thompson; sister, Lucille (Bob) Kuhl of Chester and sister-in-law, Theresa Manahan of Chatfield; and many other relatives and friends.Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary in 1982; parents Matt and Adeline; son-in-law, Mark Himrich; and brothers and sisters, Cyril, MaryLou, Joe, Dolores, Maurice, Paul, and Lorraine.Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Reverend Kurt Farrell officiating. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Sunday at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service and one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Chatfield in the spring.
