HOFF FUNERAL HOMES - HOUSTON CHAPEL 507-896-3127 HOUSTON, MINN. - Kathryn Sylvia Vetsch, 83, of Houston, Minn. died on Monday, February 1, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on September 13, 1926, in Houston, Minn. to Lud and Dena (Nelson) Torgerson. She was raised in Houston and married Donald Hegland in 1945. Kathryn and Donald farmed in Looney Valley. Donald died on 1953. In 1959, Kathryn married Leland Vetsch. She and Leland farmed at Union Ridge near Caledonia for five years. They moved to Houston where Kathryn took care of her Aunt who raised her, Tillie Anderson. She also worked at Valley View Nursing Home in the Dietary Department. Leland died in 2004. Kathryn was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and making lefse. Music was very important to Kathryn. She loved to play piano by ear and sing. Kathryn was a devoted mother who made it a top priority to introduce her children to the Lord. She loved all of her family unconditionally. She is survived by five children: Doris (Richard) Todd of Houston, Minn., Dianne (Gary) Yezek of Manly, Iowa, Dale (Barb) Hegland of Lake Wales, Fla., Donna (Glen) Schallock of West Salem, Wis. and Loren (Cathy) Vetsch of Rushford, Minn.; eight grandchildren: Rhonda, Kristin, Chuck, Cathryn, Donald, Dustin, Gina and Jamison; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Thenard Torgerson of Chillicothe, Ohio and David (Mavis) Jorde of Houston, Minn. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three sisters: Viola, Candace and Lillian, one brother, Donald, and one grandson, Randy. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
