Kathryn Rebecca Kanz-Brand

Kathryn Rebecca "Katie" Kanz-Brand, 36, of Rushford died Sunday November 25th in Rochester. Katie was born October 27, 1976 in Winona to Michael and Rebecca (Markus) Kanz. She grew up in Lewiston, graduating from Lewiston-Altura High School in 1995, where she was active in Track, Basketball, Volleyball, Cheerleading, Choir and Band. Katie had energy and a zest for life. She valued education; having gone to Dakota County Technical College for their travel agent program, SE Technical College - Winona for Paralegal and was a Certified Nursing Assistant. Katie was most recently employed at Peerless Chain in Winona. She and Darin Brand were married August 28, 1998 in Henderson, NV. Being a mother was important to Katie. She is survived by her two daughters, Michaela Brand and Abigail Kanz, her lifelong friend, Darin Brand of Rushford, parents, Michael and Rebecca Kanz of Lewiston, siblings' Emily Kanz of Minneapolis, Benjamin Kanz of Fountain City, WI and Elizabeth Kanz of Rochester, grandmothers Betty Kanz of Lewiston and Joyce Markus of Plainview. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers Robert Kanz and Joseph Markus and beloved cousin Markus Gallant. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston with the Reverend Timothy Hall officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at St. Rose of Lima Church from 5-8PM Thursday and one hour before services Friday.
