Lewiston, Kate Dannen, 55, of Lewiston died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 19, 2013 in Lewiston. Kathryn "Kate" Krenz was born December 29, 1957 in Lake Preston, South Dakota to Merlin and Dorothy (McNamara) Krenz. In 1968 she moved with her family to Lewiston, where she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1976. Following high school she attended Winona State University and later graduated from lab tech training in Faribault. Kate then worked as a lab tech for clinics in New Prague and Clara City where she met her husband, Loren Dannen. They married on June 25, 1983 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston. The couple farmed at Clara City before moving back to Lewiston in the fall of 1988. For several years Kate helped care for her mother, Dorothy, during her struggle with Alzheimer's. She has worked for Riverside Electronics in Lewiston for the past seven years. Kate loved to read and spend time with Loren at their camper in Custer, South Dakota. In high school she was involved in chorus and band; playing the clarinet and receiving many choral awards. At Winona State she was also in the band and played the oboe. Survivors include her husband Loren, father Merlyn Krenz of Lewiston and his special friend Lee Phillips, two brothers David (Eileen) Krenz of LaCrescent and Stephen (Valerie) Krenz of Owasso, OK, six nieces and nephews; Christopher (Krista), Michael, Brian, Kristy, Tim and Jenny, one great-niece Violet, two brothers-in-law and their families, Larry (Diane) Dannen of St. James and Randy (Marlys) Dannen of Willmar and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy and a niece Kelly. Services to celebrate Kate's life will be 11AM Monday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Lewiston, led by funeral celebrant Jenny Hoff.
