After a courageous battle of cancer, we announce the passing of Karen Marie "Salter" Proper on October 25th, 2024. She was born on January 6th, 1957, the beloved daughter of William and Delores Salter, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Karen graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School and later from St. Mary's School of Practical Nursing College.
On June 25th, 1977, Karen united in marriage with her devoted husband, Jerry Proper, in Eau Claire, WI. Together, they raised four children, creating a loving and nurturing home filled with cherished memories and shared experiences.
Karen dedicated 43 years of her life to serving others as a nurse at Olmsted Medical Center and Mayo Clinic/ St. Mary's, where her caring and compassionate nature shone through in all she did. She was a pillar of strength within her community, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield, and a faithful follower of her Catholic faith.
Outside of her professional life, Karen truly enjoyed the outdoor activities from hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling to spending countless hours with family whether it was on the farm or lakehouse to raising cane with her brothers and sister. An avid sports fan, she could often be found cheering on her grandchildren from the sidelines, their biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader.
Karen's love for the Holidays was evident in the way she decorated her home, creating a warm and inviting space for family gatherings where her presence filled the room with light and love. She was known as a loving and caring mother, always guiding her children with wisdom and unwavering support, instilling valuable life lessons that will endure through generations.
Karen Proper's legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Karen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jerry; children, Troy Proper, Ty (Michon) Proper, Nicole (Travis) Torgerson, Luke (Amanda) Proper; grandchildren, Irelyn and Estelle Proper, Alec and Myka Torgerson, and Madyson Proper; siblings, Judy (Denny) Mangan, Bill (Ann) Salter, Dave (Maureen) Salter, Carol (Alan) Osland, Linda (Lenny) Kasten, Glenn Salter, and Ann (Pat) Peeso.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Delores Salter; maternal grandparents, Bernard and Leona Lee; paternal grandparents, Herbert and Philomena Salter; and granddaughter, Thea Ann Torgerson.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield, MN from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield, MN at 11am, with one hour of visitation prior to the service.
