Karen Nixon

April 19, 1949 — November 17, 2023

Karen Louise Nixon (Weaver) passed away on November 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 19, 1949, to William Weaver and Lucille Meier in Winona, Minnesota.

Karen's life was one of adventure and joy. She resided in various places throughout her life, from Illinois and Germany to Colorado Springs, until she found her true home in Arizona, where she lived for the past 28 years. She attended Assisi Heights in Rochester, Minnesota, where she graduated with a nursing certificate. Initially, Karen worked as a dedicated LPN, providing compassionate care to those in need. Later, she pursued her passion for travel and became a skilled travel agent.

Most recently, Karen found deep fulfillment in her role as a Medicare and Medicaid specialist in the pediatric department at Centene Health Corporation. She cherished her work immensely, and even when faced with health challenges, she remained determined to return to her beloved job. Karen embodied what Centene is all about and she truly did transform the health of the communities she served, one person at a time.

Karen's love for exploration led her to travel the world, embarking on numerous cruises and experiencing the diverse wonders this planet has to offer. Her adventures delighted her, with the exception of Antarctica, as she preferred the warmth over the cold of the polar regions.

Throughout her life, Karen had a few cherished passions. She adored panda bears, finding comfort and joy in their gentle demeanor. Muffins held a special place in her heart, often treating herself to a freshly baked one. Karen loved sipping her favorite mocha cookie crumble coffee drink from Starbucks, savoring each moment of indulgence.

During her final journey, Karen received exceptional care and compassion from the staff at St. Anne's Extended Health Care. She was a pistol to take care of, but they did the job very well! Their dedication and support were deeply appreciated by both Karen and her family. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Karen's dear friends Linda, Barb, and Joann, whose unwavering presence and support brought comfort during this challenging time.

Karen is survived by her sisters, Linda Kratz of Davenport, IA, Billye Jean (Randy) Rakstad of Winona, MN; brothers, Greg (Cheri) Weaver of Rollingstone, Chris (Vaunie) Weaver of Plymouth, WI, Matt (Janelle) Weaver of Trempealeau, WI; ex-husband, Dan Nixon; son, William Ross Nixon; brothers-in-law, Chuck, Greg, and Neal Nixon; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Lucille Weaver.

Per Karen's wishes no services will be held.
