WINONA June Virginia Newcomb, 82, of Winona, died peacefully Saturday, April 25, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family. June was born June 20, 1932 to Benjamin and Laura (Benson) Tallman in Margate, NJ. She attended Commerce High School in Springfield, MA and graduated in 1950. On April 7, 1951, she married the love of her life, George Newcomb, Jr. Together they raised three children, Craig, Laurie and Brenda. Among her various volunteer work and jobs, including working as an underwriter for Mass Mutual Insurance Co. in Springfield, MA, she often said, "Of all I've done, I am most proud of raising my three wonderful children." Having lived in over 10 homes, June loved to move, shop, and decorate! She and George built a home in Hampden, MA where they lived for almost 20 years before moving to Winona, MN in 1980. June often spoke of her beloved New England and her love of the ocean. June is survived by her two daughters, Laurie (Edward, Jr.) Gorski and Brenda (Bryan) Scott; grandchildren, Benjamin Newcomb, Emily Newcomb, David Gorski, Thomas Gorski, Elizabeth Scott, Allison Scott, and Brandon Scott; and great-grandson, Milo Hnatow. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, Jr. and son, Craig, as well as her sister Mary Anna and brother, Charles. A memorial service for June will be held 4pm, Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at First Congregational Church in Winona with visitation there one hour prior to the service. Reverend Howie Tobak will officiate. June will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Winona Hospice, 175 E.
