Judy J. Keller, 63, of Peterson, Minn. died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Whitewater Healthcare center in St. Charles, Minn. She was born on February 20, 1941, in Elkader, Iowa to Walter and Dolores (Hall) Szemkus. Judy Graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1959. She graduated from Mount Mercy Collage in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. She taught elementary school at Independence and Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a number of years. In later years she did secretarial work and substitute teaching. Judy married Lyle Keller on October 7, 1989, in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rushford, The Ashley Chapter of the National Society of the daughters of the American Revolution. Judy was a descendent of Revolutionary War Veteran, Abel Hannah Baker, of Connecticut. She is survived by her Husband, Lyle; a brother, Roger Szemkus of Garber, Iowa; an uncle, Clair Hall of Chicago, Ill., four nieces and one nephew. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Faye Szemkus. There will be a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rushford with the Rev. William Kulas officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, Minn. Friends may call from 9:30 am until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Mayo Foundation. Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
