Joy Erdman, of Wykoff, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 outside her residence.
Joy was born April 15, 1933 in Rochester to Henry and Clara (Lottes) Bicknese. Joy graduated from Wykoff High School in 1951. Following high school she worked at the family grocery business and later married Paul Erdman on July 20, 1952.
Joy and Paul (Ozzie) worked in Wykoff at their family grocery business, Ozzie's Market, for over 20 years. Later Joy provided home daycare and before her retirement spent 10 years employed at Mayo Clinic. After retirement, she worked at the Bank Gift Haus in Wykoff and enjoyed many get togethers with friends for coffee.
Survivors include three children, Paula (Dan) Graskamp of Stewartville, Michael (Janet) Erdman of Lakeville, MN and Henry Erdman of St Paul. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Wade Baker, Danah Morey, Katie Hareldson, Faith Krogstad, and Eli Erdman. Four great grandchildren survive Joy: Taylor Morey, Morgan Morey, Sula Krogstad, and Espen Krogstad.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Virgil Bicknese; husband Paul; son James, and grandson Justin Graskamp.
Joy was a member of Fountain Lutheran Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and helping with church projects. She was an avid cook and baker.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Joy will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 18 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Pastor Emily Carson officiating.
A memorial gathering and visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 17 at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services. Joy has donated her body to the Mayo Clinic Department of Anatomy.
