Josephine Boyd

Fountain City, WIJosephine Boyd, 92, of Fountain City, WI, died Sunday, February 3, 2008, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona. Josephine was born April 15, 1915, in Martinpur, India to Chowdri and Zeenat Bali. She was united in marriage to Daniel Boyd on May 7, 1934, in Lahore. He preceded her in death in 1959. For several years, Josephine was a school teacher in Lahore and also sang on the radio. In 1945, she moved with her family to Calcutta, India where her husband worked as an engineer. During the time they lived in Calcutta, the Partition of India and Pakistan occurred. They never got back to Lahore. In 1953, the Boyd family moved to Bettiah in the state of Bihar. Josephine lived there until she came to America with her daughter, Pamela, in 1972. In the ensuing years, she made several trips back to India to visit family and friends. Josephine enjoyed her family and, while able, took an active part in her church. She had a passion for helping those who were less fortunate than her. She was an excellent cook and would invite friends to a meal of delicious Indian food. She learned how to play Gin Rummy and became a master at it.Josephine lived in the Country Apartments in Fountain City for 19 years until she moved to Winona in 2002. She is survived by two sons, Patrick (Shoba) Boyd of Dharan, Nepal, Francis (Leena) Boyd of Nautanwa, India, and two daughters, Mable (Harold) Christensen of Winona and Pamela Boyd of Dodge Center, MN. She also leaves to mourn 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
