Joseph Paul Krall (Joe), age 28, died May 22, 2016. Struck by a car when his motorcycle stalled in traffic on highway 710 in Long Beach, California; he died instantly. Joe was 28 years old and 3 weeks from moving back to his home in Minnesota to continue his life with his love of 8 years, Meghan Kirchhoff. He was a doctoral student at University of California, Irvin writing his dissertation at the time of his death.
Joseph was born, January 9, 1988 in Tucson, Arizona to proud parents, Michael D. Krall and Lora Foreman-Krall. He moved back to the Midwest with his family at age 6 months. He graduated from Winona Senior High School in 2006 where he was a PSEO student at Winona State University and in the top 10 % of his class. He was involved in football, wrestling, national honor society and his real pleasure, music. He was a member of the marching and concert bands as well as jazz band. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2011, cum laude, with a double major in English Literature and Language and Native American studies. He was 1 credit short of a minor in computer science. He spoke Dakota and German fluently, taught himself French and some Spanish. He worked 1 year for Thomson Reuters before being 1 of 2 accepted nationally for doctoral studies in Comparative Literature in Irvin, California. Joe was also a member of Minnesota DeMolay for 10 years serving as Winona chapter master counselor and Minnesota state master counselor. Joe, who always spoke his mind, was an avid supporter of social justice issues and a thought provoking public education.
Joseph is survived by his parents, Mike and Lora (Winona, MN); brother, Eric (Fargo, ND); his love Meghan (Minneapolis, MN); paternal grandparents Don and Marilyn Krall (Onalaska, WI); adopted grandfather, Mitch Parrish (Tomah WI); uncles Tony (Bev), Jeff (Gail), Doug (Diane) and aunt Sandy (Todd) Needles; cousins, Tiffany (Dean), Jessica (Derrick), Andy (Dana), Matt (Liz), Ben, Ashley (Paul), Sarah, Ethan and Katelyn as well as many friends all the way from California to South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ronald and Harriet Foreman, adopted grandmother Sandra Parrish (Pinky) and aunt, Amy Saunders.
A Service celebrating Joe's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2016 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview. Visitation will be 4 -7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to establish a scholarship fund in Joseph's name.
