John Walter Brand, 77, of Lewiston died Thursday June 12, 2008 at Lewiston Villa. John was born July 27, 1930 in Wilson to Hugo and Laura (Hass) Brand. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949 and served in the US Army from 1954-56. John and Marlene Johnston were married April 27, 1957. They have farmed southeast of Lewiston their entire married lives. John served on the Utica Township Board for several years. From 1989 ? 1993 John served on the Winona County Board as a Commissioner. John loved his garden and fishing. He was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan and loved his cat Trixie who preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Winona, Lewiston American Legion Post #90, Winona County Veterans 40 & 8 Club, involved in the American Legion as area vice commander and first district membership director in 1986 ? 88. In 1994 John was recognized as a member of Winona County Fair Hall of Fame. Survivors include his wife, Marlene, two children, Mike (Helen) Brand of Houston and Suzie (Mark) Kronebusch of Lewiston, three grandsons, Jason, Joshua and Justin, a great-granddaughter, a great-grandson arriving soon, a brother Dave (Pam) Brand of Lewiston and their children as well as several cousins. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Nancy Brand. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona with the Reverend Paul Welke officiating. Burial will be in Lewiston Public Cemetery. Friends may call from 4- 7 PM Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home in Lewiston. Freinds may also call one hour before services at the church.
