John Warren Benson, 75, of Houston died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
John was born January 4, 1941 in Houston to Fred and Manda (Furseth) Benson. He graduated from Houston High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 - 1963, serving in Tripoli Libya as a flight-line crash-truck mechanic and operator. Following his discharge from the Air Force, John met Harla Halverson back in Houston at Church one Sunday. They were married July 25, 1964 in Houston, where they made their home. He worked as an agronomist for Midland Co-op, Land-O-Lakes and retired from Benson Farm Service in Lewiston. He loved to go fishing up north and in Canada, as well as hunt deer. John also collected and restored tractors, and loved participating in tractor pulls. John was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, where he ushered and taught Sunday School.
Survivors include his wife, Harla, two sons; Jayme (Sheila) Benson of Minneapolis and Corey (Heather) Benson of Houston, five grandsons; including Chase and Cole Benson in Houston. He was preceded in death by his sister, Florian Cairns.
Funeral Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with Pastor Linda McPeak officiating. Burial will follow in Stone Church Cemetery with military graveside honors being conducted by the Houston American Legion. Friends may call one hour before services at the church.
