John F. "Jack" Sommers, 93, of Lewiston died Friday morning, December 2, 2011 at his home. Jack was born February 12, 1918 in Wyattville to Frank and Gladys (Hall) Sommers. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, stationed in Africa and Italy. He and Marjorie Benck were married September 26, 1946. Following his return from the war Jack worked as a mechanic at Lewiston Auto, Quality Chevrolet, Walz Buick and Lewiston Public Schools as bus mechanic. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston and was a SEMCAC volunteer driver for 23 years. Survivors include his two children, Alan (Diane) Sommers and Susan Sommers, three grandchildren, April, Janell and Jay, all of Lewiston. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 1988 and a brother Don. Funeral Services will be 11AM Tuesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverends Michael A. Lindemann and M. John Dermé officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7PM Monday at Hoff Funeral Service in Lewiston. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Lewiston American Legion.
