John Raymond Decker

St. Charles, John R. Decker, 88, or St. Charles died Friday January 23, 2009 at Golden Living Center - Whitewater in St. Charles. He was born January 4, 1921 in Elba Township of Winona County to Jacob and Maude (Waldron) Decker. John married Irene Mueller on January 22, 1944 at Berea Moravian Church. They farmed on the Decker family farm in Elba Township. He also sold farm insurance as an independent agent for John Decker Agency. Their farm contained the 'Gainey Gold Mine" of local lore. He enjoyed traveling, camping and most of all visiting with friends and clients. Survivors include his wife Irene, two daughters, Janice (Everett) Woodward of Eyota and Sharon (Richard) Beyer of Rollingstone, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and two brother's Norman (Janet) Decker of Winona and Stanley Decker of Kasson. He was preceded in death by a sister Hazel Decker. Memorial Services will be 11AM Saturday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles with the Reverend James Callahan officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Saratoga Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 - 11AM Saturday at the church.
