Winona, MN John Francis Overing, 85, of Winona, MN, died Friday, January 15, 2010, at his home. John was born December 12, 1924 in Wiscoy Township, Winona County, to Jacob and Ella Belle (Severson) Overing. John served in the US Army. On August 4, 1945 he married Dorothy Holz at Cathedral of The Sacred Heart in Winona. He was a member of the American Legion Post #9 and Cathedral of The Sacred Heart Church in Winona. John worked at Broms Foundry for 42 years as a molder. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, tinkering, and collected hats. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Dorothy of Winona; son Michael (Judy) Overing of Winona; three daughters, Sue (Joel) Thompson of Winona; Jini (David) Stoeckly of Onalaska, WI; and Fran (Denny) Grandl of Winona; six grandchildren, Sherry (Rob) Kowalewski, Michael Overing, Jr., Brooke (Jake) Hoff, Reid Stoeckly, Tauna (Chad) Juenger, and Joey Grandl; seven great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one brother Gordy (Kathy) Overing of Winona; and his dog Princess. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, and granddaughter Tracy Donahue. The Funeral Service for John will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Services - Hansen Goodview Chapel with The Reverend Richard Colletti officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona with Military Honors performed by American Legion Post #9. Friends may call from 5-8pm on Monday, January 18 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service - Hansen Goodview Chapel and also one hour prior to the service.
