Joanna McMillan

Joanna Peters McMillan passed away on 7/16/23 from multiple myeloma. She was born in Minneapolis in 1949. She graduated from Marshall University high school in 1967 and attended classes at the University of Minnesota. She spent her whole 47 year working career in the insurance industry. She passed her state insurance exam at the age of 17, and later became a CIC and CPCU. She was active in the Insurance Agent Association and was awarded the State of Minnesota Agent of the year award in 1993. She owned her own agency and retired to Colorado in 1996 only to re-enter the business there. She retired from Colorado West Insurance in 2015.


She enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally, she traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean and Asia. She visited most of the United States and Canada traveling in an RV.

She loved the water and had a lake cabin and later a home on Lake Minnetonka. She was at home behind the helm of a runabout. She was a passionate golfer and had great times on “girl golf trips”. She was very competitive and did well in golf tournaments.

Jo had a quick sense of humor and a sharp mind and was loved by her friend’s, coworkers, and customers. Later, she was adored by her doctors, nurses and hospital staff. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce McMillan; brother, Carl Peters; and two stepchildren, Roger Cornett and Courtney Bernal; and her only cousin, John Utermoehl.  She was preceded in death by her parents Carl Peters and Myra Irvine and her first husband, Paul Cornett.

A memorial will be held on October 14 at 11:30 at the Rifle Creek Golf Course, in Rifle Colorado.
