Joan (Duellman) Hemmelman, 78, of Winona, MN, died on Sunday, February 9th (her birthday), 2025 at home. Joan was born February 9, 1947, in Winona, to Henry and Rose (Michalski) Duellman. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School, Cotter High School and Secretarial School in Winona. In August 1967, she married John Styba, and they had two children, Jay and Jennifer. Joan and John later divorced.
Joan worked throughout her life at several local companies in Winona: Thern, Duellman & Pingle Accountants, Kujak Trucking, Modern Concrete, KWNO Radio Station, RTP Company and ABF Freight. She met David Hemmelman while working at RTP, and after several proposals on Skipper's dance floor, Joan and David were married in April 1992.
Joan enjoyed calligraphy, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, watching Twins baseball, spending time in her flower garden, and baking chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies with her husband, David. She always loved music, listening to music any chance she could. Some of her favorite artists were Johnny Mathis, Queen, and John Mellencamp.
Joan is survived by her husband, David, and their children: Jay Styba of Denver, CO; Jennifer Styba (Teej Thaldorf) of Minneapolis, MN; and step-daughter, Dodi (Jared) Daffinson of Dodge, WI; granddaughter, Alison Styba of Raleigh, NC; and step-grandsons, Mat (Brandon) Sadowski-Gurdak of Boston, MA and Conner Hemmelman of Winona, MN. Joan is also survived by her brother, David (Janice) Duellman of Winona, MN and sister-in-law, Joy Duellman (wife to Richard) of Rochester, MN; in addition to step-daughter-in-law Katie Hemmelman (wife to Tye) of Winona, MN. Joan also leaves behind two cats, Mickey and Zelda.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Richard Duellman, Barbara Grossell, and Anita Webber; as well as her step-son, Tye Hemmelman, and step-grandson Tucker Hemmelman.
Joan will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony.
