Jerold (Jerry) Grant Peterson died on Sunday, Oct 13th at his home in Rochester, MN.
Jerry was born July 6, 1947 in Lacrosse, WI to Arnold L. and Doris O. Peterson (Flatten).
Jerry graduated from Houston High School in Houston, MN. Jerry enlisted in the Navy in September, 1966. After graduating from Naval Hospital Corps School and Field Medical School as a Corpsman (Medic) in May, 1967, Jerry served in Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Recon, Charlie Company in numerous combat campaigns. Jerry was honorably discharged from the Navy in June, 1970.
After leaving the Navy, Jerry returned to Rochester, MN and enrolled in the Registered Nurse Program at Rochester Community College. After graduating in 1973, Jerry began his career as a Registered Nurse at the Rochester State Hospital before moving on to Olmsted Medical and finally the Mayo Clinic where he worked until retiring in September of 2009.
Jerry married Kristine M. Strom of Lanesboro, MN on August 17th, 1974. Jerry and Kris were together 35 years until her death in September, 2009.
Jerry was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed Muskie fishing on Bone Lake in Wisconsin in the fall and pursuing trout and whitetail deer in the streams and bluffs around his boyhood home in Houston. He traveled to Texas on several occasions to fish the saltwater flats around Rockport, TX.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara (David) Garlie; nephews, Mark Garlie, Matt Garlie, Dave Garlie; and his niece, Suzzane Keuler.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kris.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at Charlie's Eatery and Pub from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Saturday, Oct 19, 2019. In lieu of flowers, Jerry would like donations to St. Judes Children Hospital. Military honors and interment will be held at the Preston Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
