St. Charles, Jeffrey R. Hirschey, 65, of St. Charles died Sunday morning November 25th at St.Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born May 15, 1947 in St. Charles to Russell and Eileen Hirschey. Jeff graduated from St. Charles High School in 1965. They moved to Florida where Jeff attended college for a short time before entering the Air Force. He served in Viet Nam in 1967 & 68, as a gun supporter on a C130 aircraft, and received a Purple Heart for injuries received. Following his discharge from the service Jeff returned to Florida where he operated service stations. In the mid 1980's Jeff returned to the St. Charles area. At which time he drove for Hulshizer Trucking and was self employed at Utica Storage and Car Wash. Jeff and Helen (Pierce) Spitzer were married on March 12, 1992 in Hollywood Beach, Florida. Even though Jeff faced enormous medical challenges in his life, with out complaint he carried on. Jeff was brutally honest. He spread joy & caring to all. Jeff left everyone with a smile. He loved the simple things, spending time in his beloved Utica Storage building with his cars and toys, his days on the lake in Ely with his wife, Helen (nick named Bunny by Jeff) . With a fishing pole in one hand and a Michelob in the other, these were the simple joys he loved. Jeff had a wonderful sense of humor with a caring passion for all. He loved to socialize with friends and Crown Royal. Jeff will be forever missed and loved by family and friends. Jeff was a member of St. Charles Matthew Lutheran Church, VFW and DVA.Survivors include his wife Helen, a stepson Kevin Pierce of Faribault, a brother Mark of Idaho Falls, Idaho, sister-in law Ruth Spitzer, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Darlene and Harold Money, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-son, Rick Pierce. Funeral Services will be at 11AM Thursday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles, with the Reverend Larry La Dassor of St Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. The St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Clubs will provide graveside military honors. Friends may call from 5-8PM Wednesday and one hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
