St. Charles, MNJay Clarence Robinson, 81, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Jay was born on April 17, 1923, in Mazeppa, MN to Clarence and Estella (Duncan) Robinson. Jay graduated from High School in Mazeppa, MN and moved to Chicago, IL where he worked for the Pullman Co. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was in the European Theater. Following the war Jay received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Winona State University. He also married Dorothy Grant on January 18, 1947, in Chicago, IL. She later died December 23, 1980. Jay taught music for 32 years teaching in Parkers Prairie, Starbuck, Stewartville, Mabel and St. Charles, MN. He had been the band and choir teacher in St. Charles since 1967 and retired in 1984. On July 27, 1984, he married Alice Reiners in Mazeppa, MN. Jay was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mazeppa, the American Legion Post 190 of St. Charles, VFW of St. Charles and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was past commanders of Post 190 American Legion in St. Charles and past 1st district commander of the Minnesota American Legion. Jay enjoyed following sports, especially baseball and football.Survivors include his wife, Alice; son, Grant (Diane) Robinson of Luverne, MN; daughter, Mary Lou Robinson of Lindstrom, MN; two grandchildren, Emily Robinson and Grant Robinson II; two step-grandchildren, Sara Mae Haynes and Denille Mae Haynes; and two brothers, Neil (Charlene) Robinson of Ceres, CA and Charles (Marilyn) Robinson of Lake Crystal, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Dorothy and a brother, Dean.Funeral services are planned for Monday, June 21, 2004 at 11:00am at the United Methodist Church of Mazeppa, MN with the Reverends Thomas Wilson and Earl Stephen co-officiating. Burial will be in the Mazeppa Cemetery. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes ? St. Charles Chapel on Sunday from 4-8:00pm where there will be a Masonic Service at 7:30pm. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday in Mazeppa, MN.
