WINONA AND FORMERLY FROM TULSA, OKLAHOMA AND BARBOURVILLE, KENTUCKYJanet Steward Cohenour, 95, of Winona and formerly from Tulsa, Oklahoma and Barbourville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona, surrounded by her loving family.Janet was born March 28, 1918 in Pretty Prairie, Kansas to Cecil and DeEtte (Reighard) Steward. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from the University of Tulsa and later went on to receive her Masters degree from Union College in Kentucky. She was united in marriage to Francis D. Cohenour on July 22, 1944 and, together, they raised four children. Janet taught art to elementary through college-aged students from 1942 to 1991. Her passion for art and love of teaching inspired many generations of students. Janet was a member of the National Art Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and AAUW, and stayed involved with various social organizations. A woman of faith, Janet was active in her church and enjoyed bible studies. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted wife and a great friend. She enjoyed playing bridge, and loved attending dances with her husband. In 2009, Janet relocated to Minnesota to be close to family. At Saint Anne, she enjoyed social activities and developed close relationships with the staff and other residents.She is survived by her son, Dale Cohenour of Barbourville, KY; daughter, Gretchen (John Short) Cohenour of Winona; daughter-in-law, Virginia Cohenour of Florence, AL; grandchildren, Claire Short, Noah Short, Madeline (Robert) Camp, Audrey (Will) Newton, Frances Cohenour; and 3 great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; daughter, DeEtte Cohenour; and son, Chad Steward Cohenour.A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at The Chapel of Our Lady at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona.
