Gone fishing to someplace where the waters are always smooth, the fish are plentiful, and your line never gets tangled.Jane Christine (Dalton) Fossler, 60, of Winona, MN, passed away February 9, 2014.Jane was born on August 13, 1953, to Helen (Strom) and James Dalton in Red Wing, MN. She grew up in East St. Paul and graduated from Harding High School. Choosing to attend college at Winona State brought her to southern Minnesota. In 1973, she met Thomas Halek at Big Valley Ranch in Winona, MN. During their marriage, they had three children. Family was important to Jane, and she especially loved being "Grammy" to her granddaughter, Jocelin. Although she lived in the Twin Cities for over 12 years, her heart was in the Winona area. She was happy to eventually return to the area and remained in Winona for the next 24 years. In 1996, she was working as a cook at St. Mary's University when a co-worker, playing matchmaker, thought Jane should meet her brother. That brother was Fred Steinfeldt and he and Jane went on to build a full, happy life together. Fred introduced Jane to trout fishing and after the first catch she was hooked. The nearby creeks and rivers will forever hold their fishing memories. It was hard to know Jane and not know about her animals. Cash, Gage, Bud, and Joey will miss their loving and loyal companion.Jane was a prolific reader and always had a book nearby. She enjoyed NASCAR races and Vikings games that brought friends together at the local gathering spots. Bergie's and Witoka Tavern will have an empty seat come race days... her spirit will be there with you all, she'll just be watching from a better view. She had an extra special friendship with a little girl named Josie. Jane found great happiness in spending her weekdays with Josie. Anyone who saw them together knew Jane was more than simply a daycare provider. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.She is survived by her longtime companion, Fred Steinfeldt; her three children, Krysten, Steven, and Kelli Halek; and her granddaughter, Jocelin Schellbach. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Helen Dalton.A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 2-4 p.m., with a Memorial Service beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview.
