ROCHESTER, MINN. James ,Jim, S. Pollema, 96, of Rochester and formerly of Houston, Minn. died Saturday, January 18, 2003, at the Whitewater Healthcare center in St. Charles, Minn. Jim was born on October 2, 1906, in Houston to Geritt and Jeltje (Hannenburg) Pollema. He was raised in Houston and was a Houston area farmer. He served in the U.S. Army from April of 1941 to September of 1949, serving in France, Africa, Holland and Germany. On June 7, 1955 Jim married Mechthilda Schoenmeyer in Germany. Following their marriage they lived in both Houston and Rochester. He was a member of the Looney Valley Lutheran Church. Jim loved music and wildlife. He was very involved in the moving of Wild Turkeys to Southeastern Minnesota from Missouri. Jim is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, Jacob and Clause Pollema and two sisters, Rachel Decker and Ada Stinson. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Kris Fahey officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
