Schultz, 69, of Houston, Minn. died on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab Center in Houston following a six year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. James was born on February 24, 1943, in Wabasha, Minn. to Frank and Mariece (Corcoran) Schultz. He was raised in Minnieska, Minn. James graduated from Winona Cotter High School in 1961, Winona State University in 1965, and the University of Minnesota Law School in 1968. On July 25, 1964, He married Marlene James in Trempealeau, Wis. The couple moved to Houston, Minn. in 1968, where James worked as an attorney all of his career. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston. James was the Mayor of Houston, a member of the Houston Hoedown Board, Circle A and Triple R Saddle Clubs, SEMSCA, Houston Chamber of Commerce, Minnesota Bar Association, Winona and Houston County Bar Associations. James was instrumental in the creation of the dike system and the bike trail in the Houston area and the Houston Ambulance Service. He was an active supporter of the Houston Public Schools and was previously a part owner of the Valley High Golf Course. In his spare time James enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and all things horse, including riding the trails in the "Mountains" of Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; three children: Jackie (Phil) Whitacre and their children, Austen and Devin of Harmony, Minn., Pam (Bob) Prenot and their children, Dalton and Justin of Winona, Minn., and Tony (Lisa) Schultz and their children, Connor and Brynne of Houston; a brother, Bill (Mary) Schultz of Rollingstone, Minn.; two brothers-in-law: Bob (Sheila) James of Texas and John James of Alaska; and by many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Ken James.To accommodate the funeral size, a Funeral Mass will be offered at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church (210 South Chase Street) in Houston, on Saturday, October 27th, at 10:00 a.m.; Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Minnieska, Minn. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston, and one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to be directed to the Houston Nature Center, St. Mary's Catholic Church or to Valley View Healthcare and Rehab Center in Houston.
