Isabelle Leona (Schulz) French

Isabelle Leona (Schulz) French, 93, died peacefully in her sleep, on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Park Lane Estates Assisted Living, in Preston, MN.

Isabelle was born April 16, 1928 in Rochester, MN, to William and Leona (Schwanke) Schulz.  She attended Mankato State University and received her teaching degree. She taught math and science at Stewartville and Hopkins public schools.  She married Donald B. French August 18, 1951, and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary with the family.

Isabelle was very active in her community and faithfully served the Pioneer Presbyterian Church and John Knox Presbytery, she taught Sunday school, served on the school board, woman’s Auxillary to the MN Veterinarian Medical Association, women’s community club, friends of the Chatfield public library, and Chatfield Fish and Game Club. She also served the community as a member of the welcome wagon and meals on wheels. Isabelle was an avid deer and duck hunter, bridge player and horse rider who rode in innumerable 25 and 50 mile competitive and endurance rides around the midwest. She was also known as the bunco babe and loved hosting bunco games as part of chill fest.

She is survived by her husband Donald, 2 sons; Dennis (Jeanine) of Sydney, Il, and Dean (Marie) of Brice Prairie, WI; daughter, Marjorie (Theresa Marty) of Roseville, MN; 4 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Lenny and Larry Schulz; and a sister Violet Gathje.

Memorial service for Isabelle will be 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, with Pastor Timothy J. Gerarden.  Visitation will be from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
