Irene Louise Nelson

Irene L. Nelson, 94, of Altura died Tuesday March 1, 2005 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Irene was born April 1, 1910 near Stillwater, MN to Melvin and Minnie (Ness) Thompson. She later moved to the Altura area where she and George Nelson were married on February 21, 1929. They made their home in Altura. Irene was a homemaker and had worked at Altura Rex Turkey Plant for many years. George died July 7, 1979. Irene was a member of Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura and was a member of Jehovah Lutheran Church Ladies Aid for 77 years. She enjoyed Minnesota City Boat Harbor also dining and playing cards at the Rollingstone Senior Center. Survivors include two sons, Gerald (Beverly) Nelson and David (Carrole) Nelson both of Altura, ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a sister Jeanethe Grengs of Eau Claire, WI. In addition to her husband George, a daughter Donna Cheesman, a brother Raymond, two sisters Mildred and Mamie and a great-grandson preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Saturday at Jehovah Ev. Lutheran Church in Altura with the Revs. David A. Fischer and Michael A. Lindemann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
