Irene Julia Rostvold

RUSHFORDIrene Julia Rostvold, 95, of Rushford, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.Irene Myhre was born November 23, 1918 to Ole and Louise (Morken) Myhre in Wilmington, MN. She attended a country grade school and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1937. After graduation, she attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, and while there, she met Eldred Rostvold who was also a student. Irene then attended nurse's training at the Deaconess Hospital and continued working there as an LPN for 12 years. Following those years in Minneapolis, she returned home and married Eldred on March 15, 1952 after which they settled on Eldred's home farm near Choice, MN. They farmed together with his parents for several years. In 1965, Irene began working as an LPN at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She worked there for 20 years before retiring in 1985. Irene had a strong faith and enjoyed teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir, and quilting with the ladies. One of Irene's favorite hobbies was flower and vegetable gardening. She enjoyed canning, freezing, and sharing her veggies with family, friends, and church members. She is survived by her sons, Jack (Nancy) Rostvold of Melrose, WI and David (Levella) Rostvold of St. Charles; grandchildren, Joseph (Billie Jo) Rostvold, April Rostvold, Michelle (Eric) Williamson, Melissa (Randy) Wohlferd, Michael (Christine) Rostvold, and Melanie (Kurt) Smith; great-grandchildren, Khloe, Braeden, Cade, Mia, Braxton, Brynn, Noah, Gage, and Knox; brother, Leland Myhre; and sister, Ruth Ostlie. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldred, in 2009; granddaughter, Lisa Rostvold; 3 brothers; and 4 sisters.A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:30-6pm on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service in Rushford. A prayer service, led by Reverend Dan Watland, will begin at 3:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 1pm on Sunday at First Lutheran Church of Highland with visitation one hour prior.
