HOUSTON, MN - Irene A. Orr, 96, of Houston, MN died on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab in Houston.
Irene Angeline Bigelow was born on March 17, 1919, in Elgin, MN to Howard and Tillie (Schad) Bigelow. She was raised in Elgin, where she graduated from High School. She received her Bachelors Degree in education at St. Theresa's College in Winona, MN. She taught school in Perham, Hoffman, and Browerville, MN. On June 28, 1947, she was united in marriage with Allen Orr in Plainview, MN at St. Joachim's Catholic Church. After all of her children became school age, Irene returned to teaching in Spring Grove and Rushford, MN. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston. Irene enjoyed working in the church and with homemakers, traveling, golfing, crossword puzzles, reading, going out to eat, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Peter (Pam) Orr, Tim (Diane) Orr, And Veronica (Tim) Amberg all of Houston, Annette Frank of La Crescent, MN, and Dan (Anita) Orr of Elysian, MN; grandchildren: Jennifer (Kevin) Wiechert, Brian Frank, Carrie (Pat) Bruns, Megan Orr, Matt Amberg, Joe Orr, and Kris (Ryan) Blexrud; great-grandchildren: Michael Brooks, Faith Frank, Marcus Frank, Hannah Bruns, Callie Bruns, Victoria Bruns, Samantha Weichert, Kendall Weichert, Camden Blexrud and Ella Blexrud; and by many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; parents, Howard and Tillie; brothers: Leo, Louis, Frank and Charles Bigelow; and sisters: Margaret Smith, Dorothy Ramstack, Lucille Sheik, and Marion Tung.
There will be a Memorial Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at the Yucatan Cemetery in rural Houston at a later date. Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Yucatan Cemetery.
