Ilene Fabian, 90, of St. Charles died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Mary's Campus in Rochester.
Ilene was born May 15, 1926 in Wilson to Arnold and Helen (Jandt) Gernes, growing up in Witoka and Garvin Heights, near Winona. Ilene met Emil Fabian at the Wyatville Dance Hall. They married November 8, 1945 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Wilson. Ilene and Emil farmed east of St. Charles, until retiring and moving in to St. Charles in 1989. Emil died in 1995. Ilene went on to work in the kitchen at St. Charles Elementary School. She moved to St. Charles Assisted Living in 2014.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Fremont Sunshine Club and the Old Settlers. Ilene enjoyed Tuesday night bowling and coffee time with the girls, in addition to tending her garden. She was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed collecting cups and saucers.
Survivors include her children; Dale (Karen) Fabian, Joan (Tom) Hager and Lowell (Lori) Fabian all of St. Charles, five grandchildren; Eric Fabian, Tyler Fabian, Cody Hager, Brent Fabian and Katie (Isaiah) Randall, and her two great-grandchildren, Jane and Grace Fabian. In addition to her husband Emil, Ilene was preceded in death by two brothers, Roland and Ervin Gernes.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Reverend Samuel Morsching officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church.
