Houston, MNIda Marie Nelson, 88, of Houston, MN died Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at Franciscan Skemp Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Ida was born October 16, 1918 to August and Anna Larson. Ida married James E. Nelson on January 2, 1943 in Houston, MN. They farmed in Skunkhollow in Houston until 1963 when they moved to town. Ida worked at Valley View Nursing Home, Solberg's Café, and then became a fulltime homemaker as well as a longtime family caretaker. Ida was a loving mother and grandmother whose hands were never idle. She crocheted, quilted, and embroidered and was famous for her flatbread and home canned goods. She was a lifelong member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.Survivors include her daughter, Janice Nelson of Caledonia, MN; son, Richard (Marion) Nelson of Houston, MN; grandson, Timothy (Johanna) Nelson of Tutaryd, Sweden; granddaughter, Richelle (Nathan) Ackerman of Princeton, WI; four great grandchildren, Ella, Vera and Eddie Nelson and Reid Ackerman; sister, Lucille Olson of Caledonia, MN; brother, Harry (Mary Ann) Hall of Silverbay, MN; sister-in-law, Malita Mickelson of Onalaska, WI; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, sister, June Sobeck, brothers, Richard and Earl Mickelson, sister-in-law, Cora Rowe, brothers-in-law, Dillard Sobeck, Adolph Olson, Harvey Rowe, Martin and Orvin Nelson, and close friend and companion, Myron Unnasch.Funeral service will held on Monday, January 8, 2007, at 11:00am at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with the Reverend Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery in Houston, MN.
