Howard Helmer Johnson

Lewiston, MN Howard H. Johnson, 85, originally of St. Charles, MN, died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Anne's Extended Healthcare in Winona, MN. Howard was born on October 19, 1924 in Duluth, MN, to Helmer and Mamie (Stawney) Johnson. He graduated from Proctor High School and joined the US Navy from1943 to 1946. After serving our country, Howard attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Agronomy. On August 28, 1952, he married Jeanne Johnson. He taught Adult Ag at Wright High School, Russell High School, Alberta High School, St. Charles High School and the Technical School in Eau Claire, WI. He then worked as an Ag consultant for a private Ag Enterprise in Ontario, Canada. After retirement, Howard worked for Lutheran Social Services as a counselor and caregiver in Eau Claire, WI. They moved to Patterson, CA for eleven years and moved to Illinois in 2007 before moving to Lewiston. Howard was active in church, Sunday school, church council, and was a lay preacher. Howard's faith was his life and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife Jeanne of Lewiston; four children, Pastor Paul (Karen) Johnson of Modesto, CA, Kathy (David) Rupprecht of Lewiston, Mark (Bonnie) Johnson of Colfax, WI, and Karen Rugh of Elgin, IL; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother Duane (June) Johnson of Buffalo, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Craig, two brothers, and one sister. Howard's family will be having a private graveside service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
