Hildegarde M. Volkman, 79, of Lewiston died Sunday, March 26, 2006. She was born on July 9, 1926, in LaCrosse, Wis. to Alfred and Clara (Ferden) Semmen. Hildegarde was raised at Highland Prairie in rural Peterson, Minn., where she attended church. She graduated from Peterson High School. On August 26, 1944, she married Hubert Volkman. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society. Hildegarde enjoyed gardening, rides in the country, helping Hubert, and being in the outdoors. She is survived by three sons: Gary (Patricia) Volkman of Utica, Minn., Bruce (Sharon) Volkman, and Mark (Dawn) Volkman, both of Winona, Minn.; nine grandchildren: Heidi (John) Taylor of Red Wing, Minn., Michele (Dan) Piispanen of Aiken, Minn., Lisa (John) Tuerk of Owatonna, Minn., Erin Volkman of Lewiston, Minn., Amy (Brian Bunke) Volkman of Winona, Minn., Josh (Nichole Donovan) Volkman of Winona, Minn., Alicia Volkman of Winona, Minn., Nicole (Tim) Lebakken of Trempealeau, Wis., and Abby Volkman; two step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Hildegarde was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, and her granddaughter, Katie Volkman in 1999.
