Hilbert N. Wollin, 94, died Thursday June 12, 2008 at his home in Lewiston with family and caregivers by his side. He was born September 19, 1913 in Bethany to Otto and Emma (Schwager) Wollin. Hilbert farmed on the Wollin family farm near Bethany until retiring and moving to Lewiston in 1989. Hilbert was a member of Our Savior's Moravian Church in Altura and had served; on the church board, as Sunday school superintendent, Elder, Trustee and as Bethany Moravian Cemetery custodian for 22 years. Hilbert loved to sing and was involved in chorus and male quartet for 60 years. He sang with Lewiston Choral Club for four years and Rochester Barbershop Chorus for 30 years. He also belong to the Altura Lions Club, was a director for the Altura Retirement Homes and the Bethany and Lewiston Creamery Boards. Because of his close proximity to the South Branch of the Whitewater River Hilbert spent many days hunting and fishing there. He loved most all sports; horseshoes, baseball, softball and at the age of 67 took up golf and loved the competition and fellowship immensely. Most of all he loved close harmony singing. He is survived by his sister, Alma Wollin of Lewiston and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Teddy, three sisters, Emilie (Herman) Schultz, Meta (Lawrence) Lewis and Ellen Wollin and a niece Joanne (Tony) Speltz. Funeral Services will be 2 PM Monday at Our Savior's Moravian Church in Altura with Revs. David Sobek and Earl Stephan officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Moravian Cemetery.
