Hilbert E. Gensmer

Hilbert "Hib" E. Gensmer, 85, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, MN. Hib was born September 30, 1923, in Norton Township, MN, to August and Hilda (Matthees) Gensmer Jr. He married Yvonne Baker on June 6, 1959, in Rollingstone, MN. Hib was a longtime farmer retiring in 1985 but remained on the family farm and became the owner and operator of the Liquor Locker in Lewiston, MN. Hib was an active member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church at Norton and a lifetime member of the Lewiston Sportsman's Club. Hib enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, bowling, fishing, playing cards and his greatest passion was people. Hib loved to talk and visit with everyone and will be dearly missed by all his family, friends and "girlfriends".Survivors include his wife, Yvonne; two children, Kevin Gensmer and Dawn "Buffy" Gensmer both of Rollingstone, MN; three grandchildren, Tyler, Drew and Ethan Gensmer; brother, Arthur (Pearl) Gensmer of Pine River, MN; half sister, Renata (Milton) Anderson of Fredericks, WI; half brother, Willis (Carol) Gensmer of Minnesota City, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Grace.Funeral services are planned for Monday, November 17, 2008, at 11:00am at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church at Norton with Pastor David Eckert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Homes - Lewiston Chapel on Sunday from 4-8:00pm where there will be a prayer service at 7:00pm. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
